What we keep

Your name and your email address, so we can reach you about your order.

Everything you fill in: who the song is for, what that person is to you, the occasion, your memories, the details you mention, what you actually want to say and what must stay out of it. Your choices for mood, style, voice and language as well.

And what we make of it: the lyrics, the title, the description of the musical style and the recording itself. All of that belongs to your order and stays attached to it.

Why we are allowed to keep it

Because it is needed to carry out our agreement with you. Without your story there is no song, and without your email address we cannot deliver it. That is the basis on which we process this data.

The order details on your invoice are also a legal obligation. We have to keep those for the Belastingdienst, the Dutch tax authority. How long is under 'How long we keep it' below.

Who can see it

The ODEAI team, and nobody else. We can look at your story and your song, for example when you email us that something is wrong.

That happens in a protected admin environment you can only enter with a password. It also holds an internal log of what happened to an order; that is for us, so we can see where something went wrong.

We sell nothing on and we do not give your story to advertisers.

The page with your song

Your ode gets its own page with a link of eight random characters. That link appears nowhere on this site, cannot be guessed, and the page asks search engines not to include it.

Whoever gets the link from you can hear the song. So you decide who that is.

We never play your song to anyone else. Only if you give us explicit permission do we add it to the examples.

Services that help us

To make your song we work with specialist third-party services: one that helps write the words, and one that turns those words into a real recording.

They receive only what is needed to make the song: your story, the choices you made for mood, style, voice and language, and the lyrics with the musical brief.

That includes the name of the person the song is for. It is in the lyrics, after all, and without it the song cannot be about them. Your own name, your email address, your address details and our payment arrangements do not go there; those stay here.

These services are outside the European Union, including in the United States. Your story and the lyrics are therefore processed there. We give them no more than the above, and we use them only to make your song. If you would rather we did not, we cannot make the song; let us know before you order.

Payment

There is no checkout on this site. You place your order, then we email you personally to confirm it and arrange payment with you.

With your order we keep only whether it was paid and a reference to that arrangement. Bank and credit card details never reach this site and are not stored here.

Statistics

We count where people drop out, so we can improve the site. For that we store only events from a fixed list, for example 'someone started' or 'someone reached the summary'. Of each event we keep the time and a couple of short labels, such as which step it happened on.

A random session number goes with it, created in your browser and gone the moment you close the tab. It is not an account and it says nothing about who you are.

What you type never ends up in this. The software accepts only those fixed names and short labels and throws everything else away. We do not use these numbers for advertising and there are no third-party trackers on this site.

What stays in your own browser

While you answer the questions, your browser keeps your answers on your own device, so you can pick up where you left off. That version only comes to us when you send it, and you can wipe it yourself by clearing your browser data.

Beyond that your browser only remembers whether you chose the light or dark view, and which language you read the site in.

How long we keep it

Your story, the lyrics and the recording stay for as long as the page with your song exists. We keep that page up, so you can always find the song again.

Ask us to remove it and it is gone within a month: the story, the words, the recording and the page.

One thing stays: your order and the invoice that goes with it. The Belastingdienst requires us to keep those for seven years. They contain no story and no lyrics. Only what you ordered, when, and what it cost.

Seeing, correcting or deleting

Want to know what we hold about you, want something corrected, or want it all gone? Email us at hallo@odeai.studio. We will do it and you will hear from us as soon as it is done, in any case within a month.

If you disagree with how we handle your data and we cannot resolve it together, you can complain to the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, the Dutch data protection authority, at autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl.
